When I used to watch the trailers show on E! in the late 90s (for the life of me, I can’t remember the name, but it was 30 minutes of nothing but trailers–and it was awesome), they would always say the phrase “release dates are always subject to change” when referring to the film’s scheduled release.
Today that phrase has more meaning than ever as three films are being rescheduled–some for the better, others for the worse. So what are we talking about here? First up, FINAL DESTINATION 4 3D has moved back a week from August 14th to August 21st. Not too big of a deal, and keeps it in the summer (although a late August release is proving to not be such a hot thing these days).
Richard Kelly’s THE BOX has been bumped UP a few months, going from it’s originally scheduled date of September 11, 2009, all the way to March 20, 2009! Wow, talk about a jump! That’s like 6 months earlier than we originally thought–awesome! The flick must be better than the studios had originally hoped.
Other flicks are still in limbo, including the majorly panned THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES, which was removed from MGM’s release schedule all together with the daunting “undetermined 2009.” Bummer.
FINAL DESTINATION in 3D didn’t get hurt too bad with it’s one week change, THE BOX is sitting awesome right now with it’s 6 month bump, and THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES… doesn’t look like it’ll ever see the light of day. Release that one on DVD already–it definitely doesn’t have theatrical written all over it.
