There are a few things that would take a lot of money for me to do willingly–bite the head off a hamster, drink a gallon of raw eggs, skip rope in a field of nails and broken glass, and get into a coffin before I’m dead. So when I heard about the latest Thai horror flick THE COFFIN, which just took Thailand by storm by opening in the number one spot in their country, I just about crapped my pants.
Why? Because THE COFFIN is about a group of people who enjoy getting into coffins because they believe it’ll bring them good luck. Yikes! Sounds like it’d bring you about a billion years of bad luck, especially because of the possibility of being buried alive!
Specifically, THE COFFIN tells the story of a Thai architect and a Hong Kong dietitian who decide to go through the ritual of lying in a coffin to get rid of bad luck, to prolong life, and to cheat deat–only to be faced with a series of strange and terrifying incidents afterwards.
Directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham, you can check out the English-language trailer for THE COFFIN below to see what the hype is all about. Due to the fact that it killed at the box office, I’d say we can expect an American remake of it within the year. Yippie.
