Not long ago I told you how twisted mind Darren Aronofsky has been pegged to direct the ROBOCOP reboot. Well MTV recently got word that this reboot will thankfully be rated R!
This comes as great news seeing how the original ROBOCOP was a gritty, violent action flick and that was it’s main appeal! Now don’t get me wrong… there’s no way this reboot will be able to match the original film, it’s a classic.
The producers also stress the fact that this is NOT a sequel in any sense of the word. They’re looking at this new ROBOCOP as more of a reimagining… man these words all seem the same don’t they? Well what I think the producers are trying to say is that they’re taking the same basic idea from ROBOCOP, dropping it in today’s world, and making a brand new film/franchise with it. Now like I said, in no way could this possibly compete with the first ROBOCOP… but dare I say it’s got potential?
Serve the public trust. Protect the innocent. Uphold the law.
The idea is brilliant… the directing is amazing… and the R rating is just exciting. I don’t see where this reboot can mess up! I suppose the last key we’re waiting on is some casting news. Who will don the famous Robo-suit? Who’ll be the smoking lead female? And who’s going to step in to play the evil bastard of a villain? ROBOCOP is looking at a (presumably Summer) 2010 release date. As always, we’ll keep you updated.
