I’ve been told on numerous occasions that I need to watch THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. I’ve yet to witness this cult classic. It’s just I’m not eager to watch a musical featuring a transvestite. Then again… when said musical stars Susan Sarandon, Meatloaf, and the great Tim Curry, how can one go wrong right?
So yes, I do plan on watching this ‘masterpiece.’ But my future viewing of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW isn’t the news coming in from Variety today… no, the news pouring in today is that MTV will be remaking THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.
Another remake. Now obviously I’m yet to see ROCKY HORROR, so I’m not sure how much of a travesty this remake could be. Maybe some fans of the film can shed some light on whether or not it should be remade? I get the feeling this one is much better off staying a classic from 1975.
Regardless, BermanBraun, Fox Television Studios, and the original film’s executive producer Lou Adler plan on remaking it for MTV. According to Variety the remake will be based off the same screenplay as the original, which was written by Jim Sharman and Richard O’Brien, but will probably feature some new music.
THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW remake is on the fast track, but no start date has been set. Adler had the following to say regarding when he’d like to see it:
“I’d like to see it shown a year from this coming Halloween, but that’s up to MTV.”
A year and 3 months seems like a workable production time. No cast or director have been signed yet. As always, we’ll keep you updated once we hear more.
