New T-800 is…

Bodybuilder turned actor Roland Kickinger! That’s right, Arnold will not be returning, nor will they attempt to bring his image to life using CG… nope, they’ve brought a whole new actor to the role! One with similar qualities and attributes to the original star that made THE TERMINATOR a national icon (the guy even played Arnold in the made-for-TV movie SEE ARNOLD RUN).

According to the Clinton News-Record, Kickinger landed the role of the T-800, and had this to say about the character: It’s Arnold’s character in the first Terminator. That’s basically my role, but 20 years before, so it establishes how the Terminator [came] about.

I remember seeing an interview with the late, great Stan Winston, in which he basically described this giant factory where Skynet built these Terminators, and that all the T-800 series Terminators all looked like Arnold. Hence his return to the role, even though the Terminator kept getting terminated at the end of every movie.

I guess they’re not going that route with TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS. Then again, the future scenes from THE TERMINATOR featured other Terminators that weren’t Arnold, so maybe they’re not too far off. They certainly picked a dude with the right look to play the new T-800…
