John Stockwell, the director of such fine tropical water epics as TURISTAS, INTO THE BLUE, and BLUE CRUSH, is trading in the warm weather surf for the briskness of the Maine coast, as he just signed on to director SANCTUARY for Sobini Films.
Before you can say ‘what the fock?,’ SANCTUARY is based on the novel BAD MEN by John Connelly, and is currently being adapted to the big screen by genre favorite Stephen Susco (THE GRUDGE). Now are you intrigued? How about a brief synopsis:
The story revolves around a single mom and her son who take refuge from her ex-husband on a haunted island off the Maine coast.
If I was on the run from someone, I would totally take refuge… on a haunted island! Seriously, what the fock is right! What’s going on here? I’m sure they hide out not knowing that it’s haunted until it’s too late, but still… how can I root for someone if they’re just so damn stupid?
I’m glad, however, that Stockwell is hanging up his beach shorts… at least, for a little bit. I’m sure there will still be some underwater escapes and mysteries (it is set on a haunted island), but not as much as his previous projects. Not that he handles them poorly–in fact, they’re all shot very well–it’s just I’d like to see what he can do beyond the beach.
