Just yesterday we told you about Joss Whedon’s next project… or, he told us about it via MTV Movies Blog, and today… today it looks like he wasn’t just a hopeful writer dishing the scoop on a new possible project.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed reports that MGM has greenlit CABIN IN THE WOODS and is going full speed ahead on getting it to the big screen. Co-written by Drew Goddard (who will also be directing the project), CABIN is having serious secrecy around it, as we’re only giving scraps as to what the flick’s about. There’s other stuff that’s percolating, but this just felt great. Honestly, it’s one of the most clever and original scripts I’ve ever read.
It’s an intense visceral thrill ride and I’ll leave it at that. It was everything you would have hoped with the two of them.
I’m digging what I’m hearing so far! Not that I would expect the head of MGM saying it’s a crappy movie with so-so scares and we’re hoping to break even on it… but you gotta love the sincere enthusiasm everyone seems to be giving this puppy.
Whedon and Goddard have worked with each other before, most notably on SERENITY, and considering the outcome of that one… I think we’re gonna be in good hands.
