Butterfly director?

Apparently the hard-to-believe-they’re-making-it BUTTERFLY EFFECT 3 is close to finding someone who will actually want to direct it. Well, I guess there are numerous up-and-coming filmmakers that are looking to get their foot in the Hollywood door by any means possible. The man entering final negotiations for the job is Anthony Leonardi. The biggest thing this dude has directed is a short film called EXISTENCE, so I guess his interest in the project is understandable.

Another aspect that is probably pushing Leonardi towards saying “yes” is the fact that B.E.3 is actually getting a theatrical release through After Dark Films! Yes, that’s right (we reported on it here), After Dark will be including it in this year’s 8 FILMS TO DIE FOR Horrorfest. This move completely baffles me, seeing as how BUTTERFLY EFFECT 2 was a straigh-to-DVD stinker. Maybe that’s why they’re dropping the ‘3’ from the flick’s title, which is officially BUTTERFLY EFFECT: REVELATION.

Personally, I was not a fan at all of the original BUTTERFLY EFFECT. It felt like a poorly-acted DONNIE DARKO rip-off. Hence, it would take a great deal to get me jazzed about a third installment. Well, here’s the plot: A young man discovers he has inherited the powers of “The Butterfly Effect” and attempts to solve the mystery of his high school girlfriend’s death using his newfound ability, only to unwittingly unleash a vicious serial killer.

Well, it does sound better than the first one. We’ll wait and see if it actually is.

The only good thing about B.E.1, Amy Smart.
