Host 2 a go!

Variety announced this morning that a sequel to 2006’s THE HOST has been greenlit… with a twist. At least, I would consider this a twist: it’ll be collaborative effort between Korean production shingle Chungeorahm and China’s Stone Man Films, and will be made in China in Chinese. That’s right, THE HOST sequel will be in Chinese and not Korean like its predecessor.

Pretty cool (and kinda crazy) move as THE HOST was an international hit, but I can’t imagine something like this ever happening in Hollywood, can you? What if they made a sequel to CLOVERFIELD in France in French? That shite would just be crazy, yo!

Directed by China’s Ning Hao, the sequel will concern a calamity caused when people ignore a monster due to their desire for money. Apparently they’ll have to tread carefully around this flick as the Chinese government is all about censorship, so the filmmakers have to make sure they’re not gonna piss anyone off and have their film shutdown (bummer).

Either way, I’m stoked that THE HOST will have another entry to entertain and thrill audiences worldwide, and it’s cool that this version will be in Chinese–could there be some other political undertones to be had here? I think so.

Production is slater for early next year with a Winter 2009 release in mind.
