Illegal Vanguard

Here’s a crazy idea: release comics and movies based on those comics at the same time, creating fans of the film and fans of the comic (or graphic novel) all at once! Apparently that hasn’t really been done before, so Platinum Studios and Vanguard Animation have formed Vanguard Comics, which will take properties and make them into movies and comics for a simultaneous release.

I could swear comics based on big movies are released all the time (I still have my comic series based on T2), but I guess this is different. The first project on their plate? ILLEGAL ALIENS, about a skeptical tabloid reporter sent to a Texas border town to investigate cattle mutilations. The reporter uncovers stories of the chupacabra monster.

Nice! El Chupacabra is awesome–not sure why they just don’t call it that versus the cryptic ILLEGAL ALIENS, but hey–I can still dig it. See this picture here? That’s a chupacabra. Seriously, eye witness reports around the world have come up with this. As you’d imagine it? It seems a little taller than I originally thought…

The comic was originally created by Kevin MacDougall, no word on who will be involved with the film version of it yet, but these things take time. Hold your horses… wait for it… I’m sure we won’t have to wait much longer.
