Finally we’ve got ourselves a horror project without all the familiar names we’re constantly seeing around here (no offense to some of those wonderful peeps, of course). MY SON, MY SON is a project being developed by two of filmdom’s legitimate arthouse geniuses/psychopaths: David Lynch (BLUE VELVET, ERASERHEAD) and Werner Herzog (FITZCARRALDO, NOSFERATU). Lynch will executive produce, and Herzog will co-write with longtime assistant director Herbert Golder.
“Son,” is loosely based on the true story of a San Diego man who acts out a Sophocles play in his mind and kills his mother with a sword.
The low-budget feature will flash back and forth from the murder scene to the disturbed man’s story. A guerrilla-style digital video shoot on location is tentatively set for March.
First though, Herzog (pictured) will be directing – inexplicably – a remake of BAD LIEUTENANT, starring Nicolas Cage. I don’t understand this project, but I do know there will be all sorts of saliva-spewing overacting from Cage. I’m guessing it will be terrible.
