The Cannes fun has begun! Being a huge fan of this industry, events like Cannes are almost like Christmas time. JoBlo.com/Arrow in the Head are already at Cannes covering the hell out of it! The Arrow has already been dropping us updates! (Check the last one out here).

Well we got a press release today that is very Cannes related… it’s something pretty different.

Here’s what’s going on straight from the press release: Integrated media powerhouse, Axxis has announced that it will preview its media hub concept at the Marche du Film 2008 in Cannes. As its name suggests, Axxis aims to be the nexus of the media industry by combining an extensive variety of supporting and related media services under one roof aptly named ‘The Axxis’

Before I get into it, you can check out the official site right over here.

The Axxis actually sounds pretty damn cool. Basically it’s going to be this huge area that includes a Cineplex, a place for young filmmakers and animators to work on their craft, and a media center for the whole family. Here’s the technical description: The Axxis will be home to an incubation centre for aspiring film professionals and animators, a media-themed entertainment centre for the whole family, as well as a multi-screen Cineplex with a 5-D cinema showcase that promises to be a revolutionary multi-sensory experience. In addition, a highly interactive media walk-through demonstration will breathe life into the process of high-end film and animation production. This is on top of many more exciting features at The Axxis.

The Axxis already has four films lined up that it’s co-producing:

D’BEGINNING: An eco-disaster adventure that will star A-list Hollywood actors alongside fresh faces.
BUBBLEGUM CRISIS: A film based on the same-name original anime series from Japan about 4 young female mercenaries fighting for justice.
13 KILLERS: A futuristic action-packed adventure story of deceit and suspense.
THE DISSOLVE: A horror thriller derived from a Thai urban legend.

It’s also got a reality series in the works (who doesn’t?). It’s called DRAGON ISLAND and will pit athletic young men from around the region against each other in a quest to discover the next martial arts super-star. You can scope out the posters for the features below, click for bigger shots.

Axxis CEO Benjamin Toh had the following to say:

“The Axxis will be one of a kind in Asia. It will be the ultimate media destination for businesses and consumers – a place where the magic of creation happens and where one can experience the evolution of cutting edge media technology. At the same time, we will act as a bridge between Asia and the western world in providing top-notch media solutions and services.”

The Axxis sounds like something to keep an eye on. Remember to head to the official site for more info.
