More Leatherface?

Kim Henkel (above in the 70’s), the man who co-scripted the original 1974 TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, just informed Fango that he has plans for another all-new outing with Leatherface! Check out what the dude had to say:

“I have just completed a script for a new one, and it will not be made by Platinum Dunes. I’ve just done the first draft, and I’m still unsure of which way I’m going to go with it. However, it’s the first time since the original that I’ve done something that I wanted to do with it. I’m excited about being able to truly realize what I’ve put down on paper.”

Mr. Henkel does sound quite serious, doesn’t he? I’m even more jazzed by the fact that Michael Bay will not at all be involved with it (stick to playing with your blow-everything-up TRANSFORMERS, ya douche). The original TEXAS was an amazing exercise in singularly demented horror. Henkel hasn’t written anything regarding Leatherface since the 1997 McConaughey/Zellweger debacle that was TCM: THE BEGINNING (which I heard was mangled by its studio), so I’m really interested to see what he has finally cooked up now on his own (hopefully it’ll involve some redemption). Currently, he is not saying much about plot details, but he did drop the following tasty tidbit:

“Let me say that it moves the whole situation forward. It places everything in the present, and is very much a product of these times. It leaves behind the setting of ‘30 years ago.’ ” Yeah, but will it have Matthew McConaughey and his mechanical leg? Shit, I hope not! More on this new Chainsaw as we hear it.
