The remake of the 1973 horror flick DON’T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT has officially launched into preproduction, according to the film’s OFFICIAL MYSPACE PAGE.
From directors Alan Rowe Kelly and Anthony G. Sumner comes the retelling of the classic shocker, which went a little something like this: Nurse Charlotte Beale arrives at the isolated Stephens Sanitarium to work, only to learn that Dr. Stephens was murdered by one of the patients and his successor, Dr. Geraldine Masters, is not very eager to take on new staff. Charlotte finds her job maddeningly hard as the patients torment and harass her at every turn, and she soon learns why Dr. Masters is so eager to keep outsiders out.
You know a movie’s good when the top four ‘Plot Keywords’ according to IMBd are Female Nudity, Lobotomy, Video Nasty, and Missing Teeth! Also know as THE FORGOTTEN, I’ve actually never seen the original Grindhouse effort, but it sounds like fun in a handbasket, and if all goes well with the retelling, so will the 2008 version.
Kelly and Sumner sounds like a couple of hardcore fans that will likely do the original some justice–just listen to their explanation on doing a remake in the first place: Of course the word ‘remake’ stirs many a groan by fans. But we love this film so much that we can’t help but be true to its roots in Grindhouse schlock cinema. We’ll simply do our best to make the creepiest film possible!
