I’ve yet to catch George A. Romer’s DIARY OF THE DEAD (see JimmyO’s positive review here), but I am looking forward to its May 20th DVD release. Even though I wasn’t a big fan of LAND OF THE DEAD, I like what I’ve seen and heard regarding DIARY thus far. And now, get your mini camcorders ready because it seems like a DIARY sequel may be in the works. The master himself, Mr. Romero, had this to say:
“There’s been a helluva lot of talk about it, and there’s even been money raised, but I have not yet gotten the call that says we’re shooting in, say, July. I’ve written the first draft of the script, [producer] Peter Grunwald’s coming up here next week and we’re going to sand it down and refine it, so we’ll be ready. Then it’s just a matter of someone saying ‘yeah, do it’.”
Wow, sounds like DIARY 2’s further in the works than many people thought! Romero’s already written a first draft and has some money raised! I think this sequel has an excellent shot of actually happening. George even dropped a hint of how part 2 will play if someone does indeed step up and say yeah, do it: “Actually a thing that I love, and it might be more fan pleasing, but it’s not subjective camera. I’m using a couple of the big characters, but not the ones you would expect. I’m starting with the girl that took off…”
So perhaps we don’t have to get our camcorders ready. Either way, I’m glad to hear that George Romero is continuing his gift for delivering us the undead. Stay tuned for more DIARY 2 news as we hear it.
