I guess every true horror fan has to eventually sit down and experience the jungle spectacle that is CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. Just this past year I’ve finally become one of the initiated and that was what it felt like: a hardcore initiation from the harshest horror fraternity ever. Personally, the images and character depictions that flashed across the screen just weren’t my cup of black tea. It IS shocking, it IS disturbing, and, despite how long ago it was made, the carnage does seem very real (actual animals are indeed mutilated on camera). The flick isn’t the slightest bit scary, but it certainly is very unsettling. And if that was director Ruggero Deodato’s goal, then he most definitely accomplished it.
And now, after 28 years, it looks like Deodato isn’t quite finished spinning cannibalistic yarns. B-D has scored the sales poster art (above) for his latest, simply titled CANNIBALS. I’m not sure if this is some sort of sequel or an all-new story. However, the tagline right above the title does say, “This time they are no longer in the jungle.” So it looks like this one wants to be associated with HOLOCAUST in some way. I mean, the “I” in CANNIBALS is even the famous image of the impaled native woman. Click here to view the full poster.
No word yet on any plot specifics. All we know as of now is that Deodato will direct from a script written by Christine Conradt.
