Now here’s a tasty little gift from the warped mind of THE COTTAGE writer/director, Paul Andrew Williams (right). It seems that with the success of the aforementioned film, Williams has been able to parlay a script he wrote called THE DAY into a feature to be directed by WAZ’s Tom Shankland. The flick has a really bizarre, Christmas-themed plot that I’ll get to in a sec. First, have a look at what Williams had to say regarding the transaction:
“Basically, I wrote a script and it was something of a low-budget – in one area – kind of movie. I had just had it in my drawer and a company got a hold of it called Vertigo and they said they liked it. I told them I was going to do The Cottage and they showed me Tom Shankland’s reel. I told them he could do what he wanted – he’s a very good director.”
Now take a look at THE DAY’s synopsis: A relaxing Christmas vacation turns into a terrifying fight for survival as the children begin to turn on their parents. Williams himself had this to add: “I don’t want to give too much away because it’s not my film anymore but let’s just say there are children…and blood. Put the two together and you’ve got ‘blood children’!”
Sounds like creepy fun! For some reason, I’ve always enjoyed horror set around the holidays (GREMLINS, BLACK CHRISTMAS, CHRISTMAS EVIL, SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT, even friggin’ P2), so I’m eagerly awaiting THE DAY to come bounding down the chimney. It stars Jeremy Sheffield, Rachel Shelley, Stephen Campbell, Eva Birthistle, Hannah Tointon, and Eva Sayer.
