Is it just me, or is it beginning to seem like ‘western horror’ is the cool thing to do nowadays? Several months ago vampires were the ones making waves, now it feels like anything horror worthy taking place in a desert is selling. First we have FEAST 2: SLOPPY SECONDS (read about that here), then Neil Marshall’s SACRILEGE (read up on that here), and lastly there’s JONAH HEX (last talked about here.)
Mind you, I can’t wait for all three of those flicks, so I’m not complaining. Plus, there’s FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, so horror in a desert is OK by me.
There’s another title joining that list today, courtesy of MySpace. To be more exact, I’m talking about actress Jordan Bayne’s MySpace.
In one of her latest blogs, Bayne (pictured) drops us some info on a little project called HIGH MOON. She describes it as:
“…exactly what you are thinking it might be. A vampire western. Think “Lost Boys” meets “The Magnificent Seven”.
Sounds like fun to me! She goes on to give some crew info for HIGH MOON, firstly that Asim Ahmad will be producing through his company Solar Eclipse. Ahmad and Bayne also co-wrote the script.
She also gives us a few names that have been attached to star in the flick. The names she mentions include: Shane West (DRACULA 2000 and the upcoming STONE HOUSE), Cillian Murphy (SUNSHINE, RED EYE, 28 DAYS LATER, BATMAN BEGINS), Sean Bean (SILENT HILL, THE HITCHER (07)), and Rutger Hauer (THE HITCHER (86), DRACULA 3).
Did you just do a double take then scream with glee like I did? Minus the actually screaming with glee of course. John Ryder and John Ryder in the same flick. The man who kicked ass in the original HITCHER as the hitchhiking psycho and the man who kicked ass in the remake as the hitchhiking psycho in the same flick? That’s brilliant. That alone would have had me sold for HIGH MOON if it didn’t already have me at ‘vampire western.’
That’s not it though. She drops the news that gritty action filmmaker extraordinaire John Woo wants to executive produce. Plus, she hints at a big name being pegged to direct. Here’s what she says:
” Aside from wanting to work with talented actors, and having John Woo executive produce, the director is vital to an actor. And…all I can say right now is…I am blown away. Until the director makes an official announcement I am going to just refer to him as the most perfect director for this project.”
She even hints that they pushed shooting back from February 08 to August 08 because of said director.
So there you have it. Another seemingly badass western horror for us to look forward to. Be sure to check out Jordan Bayne’s MySpace. We’ll keep you updated on any news coming out for HIGH MOON.
