The Thing remake?

Why oh why do you f*ck with a good thing? Oh yeah, because Hollywood needs money and lacks creativity. Sorry for the rant, but I just heard that a once-proposed remake of John Carpenter’s THE THING is now almost a certainty. Apparently, Horror-Movies.ca obtained a “super-secret” list of 38 forthcoming remakes that nobody knows about. And THE THING was on this list.

True, this isn’t exactly brand new news (Ammon first told you about the idea of this remake about a year and a half ago here), but now it sounds less like a rumor and more a fact. As Ammon reported, Battlestar Gallactica creator Ronald D. Moore is still the top name associated with this project. Not much more is currently known. IMDB still lists it as “in development” for 2009. I guess we’ll just wait and see if that “secret list” is friend or foe.

I’m a big John Carpenter fan and actually felt Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN re-issue was a great homage. However, as Ammon already said, Carpenter’s THE THING was already a remake of 1951’s THE THING FROM OUTER SPACE (which was featured in both HALLOWEEN’s). So, a remake of a remake? You do the math. I ain’t on board yet.

The lovely Ms. Kristina Klebe of Mr. Zombie’s HALLOWEEN.
