A little ways back, Eric informed you of an ideal horror anthology from master GEORGE A. ROMERO aptly titled DEADTIME STORIES, which had just begun production. Well, now it looks like things are steamrolling along very smoothly into post-production. Fango scored a few Awesome AHH-Inducing Images (see above) as well as the gory details on the plots of all three stories from writer and co-director, Jeff Monahan! Observe:
“Each story [in the anthology] has a different tone and approach. The first story, ‘Dust’ [helmed by producer Michael Fischa], was our EC Comics homage. The second, ‘On Sabbath Hill’ [which Monahan directed], was our ghost story. We decided to go with a gorier tale for the third segment, and really finish off with a bang.”
A gorier tale? Well take it! Here’s what it’s about:
Telling the story of three friends, played by Barrett (DOGMA) Hackney, Liz DuChez and Patrick Jordan, who get trapped during a spelunking expedition, “The Gorge” was directed by Matt Walsh and lensed on location in Pennsylvania’s expansive Laurel Caverns.
Hmm, spelunking? Trapped in a cave? I sincerely hope they don’t start getting terrorized by a bunch of light-sensitive humanoids or Rob Marshall’s gonna be pissed. However, I’m pretty sure Mr. Romero and company have a different horrific trick up their sleeves. Plus, according to the article, the special FX, by Steve Tolin, are promised to be gruesomely great and should really hit home with horror fans. In addition to the reanimated corpses and rotting schoolgirls of the first two installments, Tolin created creatures and corpses for “The Gorge”—as well as the climactic transformation of one of the principal characters. Even hardcore gorehounds should be satisfied with the amount of red that gets spilled. “It is ‘George A. Romero Presents,’ ” Fischa notes. “We don’t want to disappoint, do we?”
With principal photography complete on “The Gorge,” DEADTIME STORIES is eyeing a spring completion. You can check out the rest of the article and more pictures here.
