The Weinstein Company announced the release date of their genre animation effort IGOR today, and… well, it’s not lookin’ so hot–or is it?

IGOR is aiming for a September release, a month that generally doesn’t land the best of the best in terms of high-quality entertainment. Potentially, releasing IGOR in September is a bad sign; however, let’s not forget what’s right around the corner from September: October. With the month packed with genre left and right, jumping the gun early on stories of spooks may be a good idea…

A similar tactic was made when CORPSE BRIDE was released mid-September. It wasn’t THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, but it wasn’t bad either. Can we expect the same level here? Maybe…

IGOR follows a mad scientist’s hunchbacked lab assistant who has big dreams of winning the Evil Science Fair, and rocks the voice talents of Eddie Izzard, Jay Leno, Jennifer Coolidge, Molly Shannon, Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, John Cusack and Sean Hayes! Nice line-up!

Will IGOR be this year’s CORPSE BRIDE, or better yet, MONSTER HOUSE? I guess we’ll have to wait for September 19th, 2008, to find out, when IGOR hits theaters everywhere.

Molly Shannon isn’t hot… but Heather Graham is!
