USA Today scored the first look at Dreamwork’s summer 2009 animated epic MONSTERS VS ALIENS, and at first glance, I’m thinking this little beast is lookin’ pretty damn good!
Not only is the animation here going to be impressive, the flick’s also going to be in 3-D, which means it just jumped higher on the ‘f*cking cool’ o-meter! Yee-haw! Along with the unveiling of the new pic, they were also supplied with a voice casting breakdown of the characters and the actors who are voicing them. Check it out:
Reese Witherspoon as Susan Murphy, a modern-day California girl who has the bad luck to be hit by a meteor on her wedding day and grows to be 49 feet, 11½ inches tall (a wink at 1958’s The Attack of the 50-Foot Woman). Captured by the military, she’s renamed Ginormica… Joining her giantess to fend off Rainn Wilson’s evil alien Gallaxhar are Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. (Hugh Laurie), the jellylike B.O.B. (Seth Rogen) and the half-ape, half-fish Missing Link (Will Arnett). Kiefer Sutherland speaks for Gen. W.R. Monger (get it?), and Stephen Colbert is the president.
Wow, talk about a line-up! And yes, even the characters are clever and catchy. While kid movies of this nature are usually pretty lame, any movie spoofing the epic monster movies of the 1950s sounds like a flippin’ blast in my book, and if done right–man, this could be the coolest ticket in town. Did I mention it’s in 3-D???
