Though it’s not really breaking news, as it has been circulating the web for weeks now, things are always more official when they hit the pages of Variety. So it goes that the story they wrote yesterday about Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (FEAST, SAW IV) being hired to write the HELLRAISER remake has a feeling of déjà vu. But hey, it makes the film THAT much more of a reality.
The Dimension film is gearing up for a Spring start date, under the direction of Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, who helmed the bloody freakshow INSIDE. Dunstan and Melton will get “high six figures” for their work.. Gee, I’d like to get high six fig’s for writing things like “And then he sucks the skin right off that motherf*cker!”
I must admit that while I liked FEAST a lot, I thought the SAW IV screenplay was ridiculous – although I’m not entirely sure if Melton and Dunston deserve all of the blame (after all, they had to deal with story elements already in place). Still, this flick isn’t without interest due to the involvement of Maury and Bustillo. I JUST saw INSIDE last night, and yes, it’s f*cking insane and ghastly and shocking and all that stuff you’d want a HELLRAISER remake to be. There’s no reason to write this off just yet (it sure beats the FRIDAY THE 13th redux by a TKO).
