In 1967, a new monster busted out of Japan looking for the same fame and fortune that GODZILLA was receiving at home and abroad. That monster? Guilala. The movie? THE X FROM OUTER SPACE. Obviously Guilala didn’t become the next big thing (Godzilla still holds king-of-the-monsters title), but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a fan base out there for the giant monster.
And if all things go according to production company Shochiku, the fan base for Guilala is about to get even bigger. Why? Because they’re busting out with a long awaited sequel to the flick! And what’s even better than that? The title! GUILALA’S COUNTER ATTACK: THE TOUYAKU SUMMIT ONE-SHOT CRISIS! I shit you not, that’s the working title for the long awaited sequel.
From director Minoru Kawasaki, COUNTER ATTACK goes like this: the world’s greatest minds gather at the G8 summit in Toyako, Hokkaido, while a Chinese space craft crashes in the outskirts of Sapporo carrying the spores of the space monster Guilala.
Just when you thought it was safe to go to the G8 Summit, disaster strikes from outer space!!! What may be even cooler than this is the fact that they will be using as little CGI effects for the monster as possible, going the route of how the original was made. Dude in a suite breaking a miniature city? If that’s really how they’re gonna update it, count me in! I mean, what’s more fun – watching an animated monster destroy a city, or a dude in a monster suit? Exactly.
