This is the first I’m hearing of Screen Gems’ LEGION and it sounds pretty badass.

According to Variety, LEGION follows what happens when God loses faith in humanity and sends his legion of angels to wipe out the human race for the second time. Mankind’s only hope lies in a group of misfits holed up in a diner in the desert who are aided by the archangel Michael.

That sounds pretty vicious. I think we’re geared up for some awesome supernatural action. The first casting news has broke with Paul Bettany (above) set to play Michael. I can definately see Bettany playing an archangel who’s humanity’s last hope.

LEGION is being directed by Scott Stewart from a script by Stewart and Peter Schink. Bold Films’ David Lancaster and Michel Litvak are set to produce with Gary Michel Walters executive producing.

Apparently Stewart’s rewrite of the script really impressed Screen Gems’ president Clint Culpepper, who had the following to say:

“I was so impressed with his rewrite that I took the meeting with him, and his visual presentation closed the deal. I’m sure he had the same impact on Paul.”

Production on LEGION is set to being this March in New Mexico. We’ll keep you updated on any other casting news.
