The last we heard about THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL remake, Kathy Bates and Jaden Smith had presumably joined the cast. Well today there’s more casting news.
IGN is reporting that another huge name has joined the growing cast list, making THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL a flick people should watch for this year. That name is John Cleese.
Cleese is brilliant in the comedy genre and according to IGN, he will play physicist Dr. Barnhardt, a Nobel Prize laureate who plays a key part in figuring out the mission and meaning of the arrival of the alien Klaatu.
Keanu Reeves is set to star in the flick as Klaatu. The simple plot for EARTH is that it’s about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.
The film is written by David Scarpa and directed by Scott Derrickson, along with the mentioned Bates, Smith, Cleese, and Reeves the film also stars Jon Hamm, Alisen Down, and the lovely Jennifer Connelly (below). The flick is slated for release on December 12, 2008.
