When reports that Christian Bale signed on for the role of John Connor in McG’s upcoming TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS (T4), I could hardly believe it! Bale actually signed on to star in an Arnold-less sequel to THE TERMINATOR, with McG in the director’s chair? The news still has me perplexed, but info shed today has some new light on the details of T4, and it’s beginning to make a bit more sense…
CHUD is reporting that while John Connor is in T4, his role is fairly small – in fact, he’s hardly in it at all. Whenever T5 comes around, Connor’s role will be more prevalent, but right now… a minor character in the story. Very interesting…
They also reveal who the main character will be – a badass named Marcus – here’s a snippet of what was divulged: Marcus was put ‘out of commission’ before the nuclear holocaust on Judgment Day and he wakes up about 15 years before the future we see in the original Terminator films, which puts the movie at about 2015 or so. Marcus is a bad ass – think along the lines of Riddick – and what he finds is a blasted world filled with horror.
In a way, it’s kind of like DEMOLITION MAN, where a cryogenically frozen hero is unthawed to save the day years into the future. No one has been cast as Marcus yet, so maybe Sylvester Stallone will be offered the role. THAT would be badass.
CHUD also has some minor spoilers for you, but overall, based on the script they were given, T4 is looking to have some amazing action set pieces, and will likely blow us all away in that department. Positive feedback on a script is always a needed first step to making sure a movie isn’t going to be total crap… and so far, T4 is looking good.
