Ever since the success of SHAUN OF THE DEAD, zomedies, or zom-coms, or simply zombie comedies – have been all the rage. People are making them left and right in hopes to capture SHAUN’s success. Considering how ‘funny’ zombies can be, it’s no surprise this trend is taking place, but what I want to know is… why is it still happening? Do we really need more? SHAUN was the ultimate romantic comedy with zombies, and nothing released since has outdone it.
But that’s not really nice of me. And we all know that one success will spawn hundreds of copy-cats, so I suppose I should just roll with it. Case in point is ZOMBIELAND, the latest zomedy gearing to go into production, this time for Columbia Pictures. Ruben Fleischer is in negotiations to direct the script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. So what’s ZOMBIELAND all about? Check it:
[ZOMBIELAND] centers on the most frightened guy on Earth who leads a motley crew of survivors in a world overrun by zombies. Title refers to an old funeral home that is turned into a morbid attraction called Zombieland.
You know what? That actually sounds like it could be a lot of fun! Especially if the right guy is cast as the lead, this could be one f*ckin’ funny ass movie! Count me on board long enough to see what we can see… maybe this is the movie that will overthrough SHAUN’s success… only to spawn MORE zom-coms! Argh! Will the madness ever end??? ZOMBIELAND is looking to jump into production this April.

I think we need more teen sex zombie comedies.
Just throwing that out there.
