The new stepfather in Screen Gems upcoming THE STEPFATHER remake is NIP/TUCK’s Dylan Walsh! That’s right, the usually mellow and ‘boring’ of the two plastic surgeons is going to be playing one psychopathic mofo!
While I’m a fan of Walsh, I probably would have picked his NIP/TUCK co-star Julian McMahon for the role, only because there’s something about him that resembles original STEPFATHER Terry O’Quinn… but I suppose Walsh will do! It’ll be nice to see the guy in something a little different.
The film co-stars Sela Ward (below) as the mom and Penn Badgley as the son… because this time around, it’s a suspecting son that the stepfather is a psychopath, and not a suspecting daughter. Here is the synopsis for the new version: Story centers on a teenage boy (Badgley) who discovers his soon-to-be stepfather isn’t all he appears. In fact, the man who fell in love with his mother (Sela Ward), might be a psycho who murdered his previous family.
The original’s a classic that deserves no remake, but since they’re making one… hey, this might end up being cool. I mean, the mom’s pretty hot… and apparently they’re going for a more psychological Alfred Hitchcock approach this time around, with less emphasis on the horror side of things.
The flick’s to be directed by Nelson McCormick, a guy who has most done TV, and is the dude behind the upcoming PROM NIGHT remake. I guess that’s going to be his niche in Hollywood, remaking classic horror movies from the 80s… I guess there are worse things in the world, thought I’m not exactly sure what…
