Out of all the remakes slapping us in the face left and right, I think this one has produced the biggest sting. Not just because of the remake in question, but because of who’s behind the remake. Ok. Here goes…
Variety announced this morning that Sylvester Stallone is in talks to direct and star in a remake of the Charles Bronson classic revenge movie DEATH WISH for MGM. That’s right. Not only is there a f*cking remake of DEATH WISH in the works, but f*cking Stallone is the man behind it! What in the hell is going on around here???
TERMINATOR 3 writers Michael Ferris and John Brancato are set to take on the remake (after the strike, of course) about an ordinary man who seeks sweet revenge when his wife and daughter are attacked.
What made the original work is that Bronson was believable in the role of ‘ordinary man’. There’s nothing ‘ordinary’ about Stallone… so right there the whole thing is going in the wrong direction.
With movies like DEATH SENTENCE and DEADEN hitting audiences hard these days, it’s obvious that revenge movies are still quite popular… and that there’s plenty of original material out there without having to result to remaking a classic! Bagh!
Anyway, if the writers strike doesn’t last too long, filming will begin in March. Spit some bullets below on your thoughts on Stallone’s DEATH WISH; in the meantime, look out for Stallone as RAMBO, in theaters this January.
