A few days ago I knocked you on the head with the info that Viggo Mortensen is in early talks to join THE ROAD, John Hillcoat’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic horror story/road movie. Up until now however the movie didn’t have a place to call home…
But those Weinstein boys seem to be on a buying freny, as the Hollywood Reporter is saying Dimension will distribute the flick in North America, with Mark Cuban’s 2929 Productions (BLACK X-MAS, TURISTAS) serving as the wallet.
This is an interesting film for Dimension (and for that matter, 2929), as it’s not what they usually deal in – it would fit in better with their old Miramax shingle… It also makes me wonder if they’re going to turn up the heat on the “horror” angle in THE ROAD (if you’ll remember, there are ravenous cannibals abound in the book, but only in spurts). I’m not worried, the pedigree is good so far – this will be a hard one to majorly botch.
