Smith talks Red State

Media mogul Kevin Smith did a cool little
interview with the folks from

MTV
about his upcoming film ZACK AND MIRI
MAKE A PORNO
. However during said interview Smith divulges a little info
about his break into the horror genre RED STATE; and it’s sort of
throwing me off.

When I first heard about the film, I was under
the impression (as I’m sure many of you were as well) that the flick would be a
psychological thriller about a crazed right winged conformist Christian. Well
according to Smith, that concept barley scratches the surface of what RED
STATE
will have in store for us.

Smith said :“You hear the
log line about, like, religious fundamentalism gone awry, and you’re like, ‘All
right, I kind of got the movie in my head.’ That’s Act One,” he said. “Whatever
everybody knows about it in terms of the [Fred] Phelps-like character is just a
piece of the movie and the movie kind of becomes a bigger statement than just
that.”

That’s pretty interesting stuff. I really thought
that would be the centre of the film, but I guess I was way off. I also found it
humorous that Smith referred to

HOSTEL
as “gore porn”. I don’t generally disagree that it is, but
it’s just funny to hear someone else call it that.

Anyways, there’s some more about RED STATE
in the interview, so if you’re a Smith fan or just like the idea of a horror
flick containing religious fanaticism, check out the interview

here
.

I dedicate this French maid to Kevin Smith. Prost!
