I know. We got wind of this over the weekend, and you’ll be thinking to yourself ‘Yo, this ain’t News!’, but as those reports weren’t official or nothing, here goes…. Lionsgate has officially announced Darren Lynn Bousman as the director for SAW IV!
Bousman (here drinking with The Arrow), the alumni director of SAW II and SAW III, has signed on to take us back into the depths of torture for yet another installment of a series that was cleanly wrapped up when SAW III ended. James Wan and Leigh Whannell are back to produce, along with Twisted Pictures, Peter Block, Jason Constantine, Mark Burg and Oren Koules, who had this to say about the announcement: “It’s great to have the ‘Saw’ creative team back together for ‘Saw IV.’ We’re looking forward to working with Darren, Lionsgate and all the Twisted minds to bring horror fans more of Jigsaw’s gore and games.”
I knew there was crack smoked in Hollywood, but I had no idea it was this extreme! Did these guys miss that part in SAW III when (SPOILER ALERT) Jigsaw f*cking died (END SPOILER)???? Jesus. Seriously, they should go a different direction or something here, because guess what: they kind of *cked themselves with wrapping the series up with the last one. What were they thinking doing that? Did they think III was not gonna make any money?
And when it comes right down to it, that’s the reason for IV right there. Money. Since SAW is the most successful horror franchise of all time, it’s the only real answer. Bummer. But I will say this: it’ll be interesting to see how they weasel themselves out of killing Jigsaw for this one…
SAW IV, which has already started pre-production in Toronto, is aiming for an October 26th release date.
