Silent Night Remade?

When BLACK X-MAS turned out to be a turd and bombed at the box office, I had hope that the studios were taking notes and finally had the revelation that remaking more horror movies was not a good idea. And today, it looks like I gave them way too much credit.

According to MovieHole (so not ‘Official’), Sony Screen Gems have greenlit the remake of SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT, the Santa-goes-nuts-with-an-axe movie from the 80s! Noooooo!

Allegedly being penned by Joe Harris (THE TRIPPER, DARKNESS FALLS), the new NIGHT is looking to not be a remake of the original picture, but a total reimagining using the basic concept as a platform for a new franchise.

He also says that they’re not looking to make a teeny-boppy, cheap remake, but a hard-core horror flick that’s both extremely dark and extremely scary. The fact that they’re remaking a horror classic has labeled this project ‘crap’ in my book, but if this does end up going somewhere, and they end up doing a kick ass job, then hooray. But until then, f*ck this idea, and f*ck this movie. And for all sense and purposes, I hope it bombs even bigger than BLACK X-MAS did, if only to prove a point.
