At a recent press conference for
GHOST RIDER, Nicholas Cage was asked about his remake of the 1973 classic
THE WICKER MAN. Cage makes the claim that when the movie bombed and
only grossed 9 million on opening weekend it was the publics fault and not his.
To this I say “Yo Cage, Eat a turd! (That’s right I went old school playground
on him!)
“The result of
what THE WICKER MAN made is the reason why they don’t make movies like that
anymore.” says Cage to Fangoria at the GR press conference.
“It’s, again, a
really ’70s sensibility,” Cage insists, “but I’m trying to do things that are
outside of the box, and sometimes that means it will work and sometimes it means
it won’t.
You know what Cage, that’s not the reason
THE WICKER MAN bombed. It bombed because
you remade a film that was spectacular; not just in hte 70’s but today as well.
It has nothing to do with sensibility, it has to do with the fact that you were
taking something that’s already been done, and do it again.
I really don’t get why these people can’t figure out why remakes don’t work. One
after another, the are all considered terrible, but still their still produced.
And you know what, I can’t really blame Cage. This is bigger than him. I feel
this is the production companies fault for just wanting to recycle work instead
of trying out new things.
Sorry about the rant folks, but I simply couldn’t let this go after I saw what
Cage said. To make up for the reading of my miniscule thoughts, I’ve supplied a
picture below for your enjoyment or click
