Earlier in the week, Latino Review had a sit-down with HELLBOY 2 director Guillermo del Toro about (what else?) HELLBOY 2, as well as his recent hit in PAN’S LABYRINTH.
del Toro started off by saying that right now he’s focussing on doing some DVD work for LABYRINTH. No release date, no details. What he did get into was his discovery of the little girl for the film, Ivana Baquero, who Guillermo said was “a big find” after going through hundreds of kids. With regards to the film itself, del Toro said the nicest compliment he got with regards to it cinematically was at Cannes, where the head of the media selection saw this and said that “this is a movie in love with cinema.” An artsy-fartsy quote, I know.
When the interview came around to HELLBOY 2, del Toro stated that they’re having all the regulars back in Hellboy, Abe Sapien and Liz Sherman. “We have two characters from the F world, which are a prince and a princess that we will be casting very soon, but not coming back is John Myers. He’s not coming back. Kroenen is back in a very small sort of cameo appearance and Professor Broom, John Hurt, is not back. Evidently Kroenen took care of that.” When asked when he’d start shooting, del Toro said that it’d probably be in late April or early May, with a long prep. With regards to having something for next year’s Comic-Con? “Yeah, we definitely will have a decent trailer for them.”
