Return of Coffin Joe

Johnny Butane at Dread Central sent over a little piece of info regarding the return of one Coffin Joe after a length hiatus.

Coffin Joe, for those who don’t know, is a gravedigger(played by Jose Mojica Marins) in search of the perfect female to get it on with to bear his son. Problem is, he keeps on killing people that get in his way. How rude! Coffin Joe first appeared in the 1964 flick AT MIDNIGHT I’LL TAKE YOUR SOUL, which was followed by THIS NIGHT I WILL POSSESS YOUR CORPSE in 1967.

Now, after all these years, Marins is set to get behind the camera (and in front of) to direct the next film in the series THE EMBODIMENT OF EVIL. After 38 years of imprisonment, Coffin Joe is back haunting the streets of San Paulo, still obsessed with the concept of rearing the perfect son by getting down with a superior woman. Out to stop him are a police colonel, the entire population of a local Brazilian slum, and a vengeful priest whose father was killed by Joe many years ago, plus all of Joe’s past victims are returning from Hell to get their revenge on. What’s a guy gotta do to get laid around here?

Dennison Ramalho co-wrote the script for the film with Marins, and promises to be the most violent film of Marins’ career. To achieve this, Marins has a big help from the Federal Government of San Paulo, providing him with his biggest budget ever. Sounds like the red will indeed be flowing!
