B.O. bad Omen

After capitalizing on the gimmick of opening on 6/6/06 (just ignore the 2 and the 0 in 2006 if you want it to be scary), THE OMEN showed a complete lack of strength over the weekend box office. Sure it had a strong Tuesday opening, whatever that means, but then it died the ignoble death that a remake of a classic deserves.

The weekend B.O. saw it finish in fourth place behind CARS, THE BREAK UP, and X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. Pretty sour news since CARS is the only other new release of the bunch and none of them should have pulled from THE OMEN’s core audience. Guess those involved will look at the results and continue to invoke the curse of THE OMEN.

But here’s what really happened. They didn’t birth Satan, just a mediocre offshoot that was neither new, interesting, nor particularly scary. Fortunately we should be done with date driven remakes for another millennium.
