While I haven’t seen HOSTEL yet (hey, that’s what happens when you’re a college student and working full-time), from the sounds of things, the film rocked. And from what Eli Roth says about the sequel, it should too.
While at the MTV Movie Awards this past week, Roth made a brief appearrance to give fans an update on the HOSTEL 2 script (HOSTEL, by the way, was a runner-up to the Best Frightened Performance Award for Derek Richardson getting his Achilles tendons sliced). “I’m writing ‘Hostel 2’ for girls — it’s going to be three girls this time,” says Roth. “They’re studying in Italy for the summer, and they get lured, and they go back to… well, we’re going to go back to a lot of familiar places.” Familiar indeed, as Roth plans to reveal that the hellhouse from the first film is actually part of a chain of these places. “It’s all part of the organization; they’ve got the whole thing set up all over the place, and they have different scouts. We’re going to learn a lot more about how it all works. In HOSTEL 2, you’re really going to see the ins and outs of the whole organization and how they get people and kill them. And there will be plenty of blood and torture.”
For those who remember, hardly anyone could be classified as surviving the first film, though Jay Hernandez did escape with his life (along with almost all of his body parts). “Jay has a few less fingers, so it might be difficult for him to blend in,” Roth said. “But yeah, he’s not out of the woods yet.”
Lastly, HOSTEL 2, like HALLOWEEN 2 and other sequels, this one picks up right after the first film ends. “HOSTEL 2 is going to start literally with the next cut, and you’re going to see [Paxton] at the same time. You’ll see that he’s totally messed-up from the experience. It’s completely wrecked him, and his life is in ruins.” Obviously, this is one film we’ll be watching for, along with the eventual double-dip of the first film’s DVD (please, no Harry Knowles this time).
