All I can say is that it’s about time a studio stepped up with this!
Fellow Chianti lover Ammon reported back in March about Dark Sky Films’ work on a brand new Special Edition DVD for THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Other than revealing some of the specs, no release date was given for the 2-disc set until now. Mark September 26th for the release of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: Ultimate Edition set at $29.99. The set will include:
- Disc 1:
- a brand-new anamorphic widescreen transfer (remastered from a new high-def transfer of the 16mm camera negative)
- new Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 stereo mixes and the original mono track
- a new commentary track with stars Marilyn Burns, Alan Danziger, Paul A. Partain and Production Designer Robert A. Burns
- a second track with Tobe Hooper, Director of Photography Daniel Pearl and Gunnar Hansen (brought over from the original Pioneer release)
- deleted/alternate footage
- trailers
- TV Spots
- radio spots
- still galleries
- David Gregory’s 2000 documentary “THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: The Shocking Truth”
- the new “Flesh Wounds” featurette featuring new interviews with various cast and crew
- a tour of the house with Gunnar Hansen
- and much more!
Disc 2:
Double-dipping aside, this is awesome news after Pioneer screwed fans over with their re-release a couple years back of their old DVD of the film, which had an awful transfer, scant extras and was nothing more than a cheap cash-in for the remake. No cover art yet, so stay tuned.
