Hollywood Reporter scored more news about another potential video game-to-film adaptation. This one based on Eidos‘ FEAR EFFECT.
Mindfire Entertainment CEO Mark A. Altman, (DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE, HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2) made the announcement today with director Stanley Tong (probably most notable for his films with Jackie Chan like SUPERCOP and RUMBLE IN THE BRONX) in talks to helm. Mindfire chairman Mark Gottwald is set to produce the film with Chuck Speed, based on a screenplay by Steve Kriozere.
Touted by Altman as MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE meets SILENT HILL (which is weird since the game was described as having BLADE RUNNER and AEON FLUX overtones when it was first released), the film will follow the storyline of the game in which you played as one of three mercenaries attempting to retrieve the daughter of a powerful Chinese businessman who had disappeared into the mysterious Shan Xi Protectorate, but set 10 years in the future. Since I dug SILENT HILL (which replaced RESIDENT EVIL as the best film adaptation of a video game in my book), it’ll be interesting to see how this turns out, since the rights to the film were originally optioned out to you-know-who back in 2004. Good thing that fell through.
