Originally announced in a press release by the New Zealand Film Commission here back in March, director Chris Graham’s THE FERRYMAN was at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and in an announcement today at the festival has been aquired for distribution by Magna Pacific.

The film, which follows in the footsteps of the classic horror films from the past, stars John Rhys Davies (LORD OF THE RINGS), Kerry Fox (SHALLOW GRAVE), Tamer Hassan, Craig Hall, Julian Arahanga (THE MATRIX) and Lawrence Makoare (DIE ANOTHER DAY), and revolves around a group of twenty-somethings who charter a boat into the South Pacific for the trip of a lifetime, before stumbling upon an evil that demands vengeance at any cost. “THE FERRYMAN is simply a great story – unique and genuinely scary,” says Executive Chairman of Magna Pacific Leon Coningham. “Although it was the strong screenplay that initially interested Magna, it is the calibre of the production team and cast which will make this a must see movie in Australian and New Zealand cinemas.”

While that’s great and all for Aussies and Kiwis, what about the rest of us? Hopefully the film makes its way across the pond in some form, since like I stated before, any film that pays homage to classics like EVIL DEAD and THE THING are films that I have to see.
