Over in Sony land (other than E3) is news of another horror film situated in the underground set to hit DVD.
THE CAVERN, not to be confused with THE CAVE or THE DESCENT (or so Sony hopes that you do get confused), tells the tale of eight explorers in the Kyzl Kum Desert in Central Asia discovering a cave system and set out to document it. Once inside the cave, however, two of their guides buy it, and when the rest of the group tries to leave, the entrance from which they came has mysteriously been sealed off. Obviously at this point, the only thing left to do is go deeper into the caves. Soon the group is being hunted by an unknown assailant (sound familiar?) and eventually the group starts to have internal troubles.
While this film sounds like a carbon copy of the two films mentioned above, THE CAVERN could make for an entertaining evening. The film did garner some acclaim at last year’s Shriekfest, by the way. Directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi (say that three times fast), the film hits paydirt on DVD July 18th. No word on specs at the moment, but you can always check out the film’s official site here, which has the film titled as WITHIN, which was the original title (guess why they changed it). No trailer for the film, either, which may be the only thing that could help differentiate this film from what’s out there already.
