RE, Wii salute you

With all the awesome news going down at E3 this year, it seems things just keep getting better and better for Nintendo’s new console, Wii (I still don’t like the name, though).

Every gamer knows how much RESIDENT EVIL 4 kicked ass when it was first released on the GameCube back in January ’05. It injected the series with some much-needed life (no pun intended) and garnered awards along the way. Capcom even saw fit to port the game to the GameCube’s rival in the PlayStation 2. Things continued to go Sony’s (and Microsoft’s) way when RESIDENT EVIL 5 was announced in the middle of last year to be heading for the PS3 and XBOX 360–no GameCube, no Wii.

News today has Nintendo singing a different tune, as a new entry into the RE universe was currently in development for Nintendo’s newest console. Capcom announced that the title currently in development won’t necessarily be the fifth game in the main storyline of the series, but will combine the series’ trademarks with the Wii’s revolutionary control system. What this means isn’t clear, since Capcom was mum about the details. Anyone who’s seen the Wii’s controllers knows that it has some wacky concepts to it, but then again, didn’t the old NES have some wacky ideas itself? Stay tuned.
