Hey there compadres. JoBlo.com/AITH has a sweet EXCLUSIVE for ya. Roger Avary, the scripter behind this weekend’s SILENT HILL is going to write and direct the big screen version of Atari franchise DRIVER (click here for more on the game).
I spoke with Avary last weekend (you’ll see the full interview soon), and he was psyched that he’d landed a major game-to-film franchise, but couldn’t say which one. I, being the curious cat that I am, started doing some snooping and came up with one helluva guess as to the project – and was 100% wrong.
Fortunately, I was close enough that the powers that be decided to set me straight and gave up that DRIVER was the project. Unfortunately, they also required I keep my mouth shut about it until things were fully official.
Guess what? Things are official. We heard from Roger Avary himself that this is happening. I’m not gonna say I couldn’t be more excited – because there is always the possibility that a midget stripper who lactates beer is about to walk through my doorway – but I am on the verge of geekgasm.
We’re talking about the man who won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay with Quentin Tarantino for PULP FICTION. We’re talking about the dude who did what many thought was impossible, bring a true to the spirit of the book adaptation of a Bret Easton Ellis novel to the screen, with THE RULES OF ATTRACTION (if you haven’t seen it, go rent it!) And now he’s taking a balls-to-the-wall undercover cop/gangster/violent driving game to life.
