In what seems like an afterthought (and probably is), Paramount has announced the release of HELLRAISER III: HELL ON EARTH to DVD for August 8th.
Retailing for $14.99, the film with be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen with English Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround. Surprisingly (or not, in Paramount’s case), the disc will have no extras to speak of, and will include the R-rated cut of the film only. In other words, save your money on this one, and track down the R2 boxset by Anchor Bay for the uncut version with goodies galore.
It seems that Paramount can’t do anything right when it comes to horror DVDs. The FRIDAY THE 13TH boxset they released a little while back was seemingly unfinished (no uncut versions, missing extras advertised on the box), and the recently released EVENT HORIZON SE DVD, while it looks good and there are some worthwhile extras, doesn’t include Anderson’s initial 2-hour cut, which had gore and scenes that helped further the plot.
If only Anchor Bay handled all horror DVDs…
