Cold Fear hot

Looks like the path to big screen glory doesn’t require a video game to be successful anymore. Survival horror entry COLD FEAR, which was a decided disappointment as a console launch, is now going to take a shot in your local cineaplex.

Avatar Films and Sekretagent Prods. have optioned the film rights to the game. According to Variety, producers are betting that the scary atmosphere and compelling story — a Coast Guard Officer trying to reconnect with his daughter is adrift on a whaling ship infested with aliens — will translate well as a horror film.

From what I’ve seen of the in game graphics I have to admit I’d agree. For an example just check out the flash intro over at the game’s Official Site. Sure it’s reminicent of John Carpenter’s THE THING, but is that necessarily a bad, er, thing? I don’t think so.

No word on talent yet, but producers are looking to land a director before going to studios with the project. Why not a take a moment out of your day and spit bullets on your opinion about the viability of the flick, and who you think would be the best helmer to take the reins.
