SpikeTV sent us a little press release letting us know that their new TV series based on New Line’s BLADE has officially gone into production over in Vancouver.

If you didn’t already know, SpikeTV recently gave the green light for the series, which has a pilot episode set for June 28th. The series (officially titled ‘Blade: The Series’) stars Kirk “Sticky” Jones (“Over There”) as the title character who Wesley Snipes made so damn fun to watch. Also onboard is creator/writer David Goyer attached to executive produce, who late last month dropped news of possible guest stars from the Marvel universe appearing on the show.

For the first episode, though, it doesn’t look that way. In the kickoff (the two-hour pilot), Blade is setting up shop in Detroit while investigating the vampire house of Chthon. Along the way he forms an uneasy alliance with Krista Starr (Jill Wagner), a former military veteran who becomes entrenched in the world of vampires while investigating the murder of her twin brother.

After the two-hour pilot, the series officially kicks off July 5, so mark your calendars, folks!
