Get ready to fear the future.

Monolith announced today that there will a sequel to their acclaimed 1st-Person Shooter, F.E.A.R.. The sequel will not be titled ‘F.E.A.R. 2’ (due to Vivendi Universal Games owning the F.E.A.R. name), but will continue the storyline, keep the characters and stay in the game’s existing universe. Obviously, without Vivendi in the picture, Monolith will be looking for a new publisher for the game.

The reason behind Vivendi being dropped as publisher was due to Monolith being purchased by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment in 2004 after development of F.E.A.R. was under way. Even though Monolith owns the rights to the game’s characters, VU Games may not be done with the F.E.A.R. name, as the company was recently rumored to be working on an XBOX360 port of the original. A release from Monolilth today made no mention of such a port, however.

While I enjoyed F.E.A.R., mainly due to the smart AI and sweet graphics, I was let down by the fact that the ending was weak and basically ripped off THE RING (which will probably be the first thing that comes to mind when you finish the game). Otherwise, I’m all for the game to to continue. Just let up on the system requirements, Monolith. Ok?
