Pluto’s new look

Despite being born with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (the heritable condition in which the individual is born without the ability to produce hair, teeth, nails, sweat glands and deformation of cranial-facial structure), Michael Berryman was amazing in his role as Pluto in the original HILLS HAVE EYES. Despite the film being dated today, anyone who saw the film remembers Berryman. With Aja’s remake on the way, it was a bummer that Berryman wouldn’t be involved (then again, the guy is almost 60). Instead, the effects wizards at KNB got the job to come up with Pluto’s visage, and Fangoria got the first good look at the results.

The first look in question is the cover to Fangoria’s upcoming issue #251 on sale February 21st. The actor playing Pluto is another Michael, this one being Michael Bailey Smith (who played Monster Man in, what else, MONSTER MAN). The upcoming issue includes interviews with Smith, fellow mutant Laura Ortiz (Ruby), plus “normal” co-stars Aaron Stanford, Ted Levine, Kathleen Quinlan, Emilie de Ravin and Dan Byrd. The makeup resembles Jason from PART 2, which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just kind of same-y, in my opinion. Anyways, click here to see the new Pluto. HILLS opens March 10.
